It is with great sadness that the Kenmore Community Club mourns the loss of Marty Askelson, who passed away June 6, 2021 after a battle with fluid in the lungs.
Marty and his wife Pat have been members for probably more than two decades, and he served as vice president for 10 years until former president and long-time friend Bud Eton passed away in 2011. Marty stepped in as president for three years just long enough, he said in a 2017 interview, to convince his neighbor David Evans and his family to join and then be elected president.
Marty owned and operated Apollo Drywall in Kenmore for many years. It was through long-time employee Les Straw that Marty was convinced to rejoin the Kenmore Community Club after a period away from it. His many contributions to the club included the kitchen remodel, and guiding the roofing and re-siding projects. Earlier on, he and Pat managed the club’s pancake breakfasts for several years.
An avid fisherman, Mary made a trek each year to Kalama, WA, where he fished for King Salmon on the Columbia river.
He and Pat just celebrated their 63rd anniversary when he passed away. He was 87 years old.
Very sad to hear that Marty passed away. He was such a great asset to KCC and alway such a hard worker, willing to do so much for the club! Bud Eton and Marty were just a few of the solid members that made this club shine. My deepest condolences to his wife, Pat. It was nice to hear you were able to celebrate your 63rd anniversary before his passing. Sincerely, Francie House (Past Secretary of KCC).
