The Kenmore Community Club Board of Trustees launched a Youth Council (KCYC) in 2020, with the purpose of offering our hall for youth-planned activities, and giving young people opportunities to help local nonprofits to get recommendations for college or future job applications.
We understand that colleges are shifting their admissions criteria due to Covid-19. The emphasis on GPA and standardized test scores is going down, whereas the emphasis on community involvement and taking advantage of the opportunities around you is going up. So applying as a Youth Councilor with a recommendation from one of our Trustees may be very helpful for your future!
The 2020 year was a great success (with 8 councilors elected) despite huge obstacles from Covid-19. KCYC made a hang-out nook at the Club, read bedtime stories to little kids online, and held a Halloween costume contest. All of the Youth Councilors agreed to change offices for 2021, because they want to give a warm welcome to new candidates.
Download the PDF below with more information. All you have to do is to pick an office to run for and prepare an easy speech. Meet as seldom as monthly, or go nuts and volunteer as much as you want! We are a safe space, supportive of all youth, and encouraging people who don't normally see themselves in these roles to take a chance.
