Meet Matt Oclander, Kenmore Public Boathouse Equipment and Facility Manager

Matt joined the Kenmore rowing community as the boatman and facilities manager for the Kenmore Public Boathouse in fall of 2021. In addition to coaching the Bothell HS rowing team, Matt coaches the Seattle Pacific University women's rowing team, and has done so for the past 3 years.

At SPU, he also fills the role as the boatman for its fleet. He came back to Seattle, in 2019, after 2 years at the Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation. There, he coached the high school men’s team to multiple Central Region team championships, as well as medalist and finalist positions at the USRowing Youth National Championship in 2017 and 2018.

He also coached with the Oklahoma City High Performance Center in the winter of 2017 and summer of 2018, working U19, U23, and Senior level athletes. As the boatman, he was responsible for the maintenance, repair, and transportation of 250+ pieces of equipment including shells, launches, ergs, and exercise equipment.

Prior to Oklahoma City, Matt was also the Head Masters and Assistant Junior Men’s coach at Green Lake Crew, in Seattle. While there, he was responsible for leading a large growth of the adult rowing program into a regionally and nationally competitive program.
