Kenmore's new law requires personal floatation devices

The first violation is a warning, with a civil fine after that

On May 17, the City of Kenmore passed a new life jacket Ordinance requiring that anyone using human powered watercraft (canoe, paddleboard, kayak, etc) must wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) while on Kenmore waters (north end of Lake Washington and the slough). The ordinance as approved by the City Council includes penalties; the first violation is a warning, with a civil fine after that.

The annual spike in drownings during early summer months when temperatures rise while the Lake Washington water remains cold motivated the new ordinance.
