One of the services the City of Kenmore provides but most people never think about is the management of all the rain, water and waterways that run throughout the city's 110 miles of streets.

When it rains, a lot of water falls on city streets and rights of ways. Managing and directing all that water is the work of Surface Water Maintenance team.

The team is a division of Kenmore's Public Works Department and is responsible for maintaining the extensive drainage system consisting of catch basins, conveyance pipe, detention ponds, tanks and vaults.

Without the dedication of these city workers, driving in Kenmore would be both tricky and risky as our rainy climate does its best to convert our roadways into flooding hazards.

This is a great way for your kids to learn what goes into city government and the services it provides in fun and informal setting. Bring the kids and a dish to share and join your neighbors for this informative discussion.

Come with questions and leave with a new appreciation for what make Kenmore a great place to live.
